Rebecca’s Story (So Far)

Chapter 1: Logansport, Indiana

I grew up in rural North Central Indiana with a loving family, loads of grass, and a painfully slow Internet connection. Ever eager to try new things, I expressed myself through art classes, piano lessons, choir, theater, and writing. Upon attending Indiana University, I majored in Professional Communications and minored in PR, with a focus in New Media.

Chapter 2: Spain

I have always had two loves: people and words. So, after graduating at the top of my class in 2016, I took an opportunity to explore both passions. The summer after college I lived in Spain. Being in community with those of another culture and language has had a lasting impact on my perspective.

Chapter 3: Home Again

I returned to the States to serve as Executive Director of a Big Brothers Big Sisters office. I grew both the agency’s reputation and the mentor count (by 140%). I trained the volunteers and managed the cases of all enrolled youth. During this time I was also a mentor, and was active with The Civic Players of Logansport. I was part of the Cass County Leadership Academy and accepted a nomination to Eli Lilly’s The Journey Fellowship for youth workers. The travel bug hadn’t left, either: I expanded my cultural competence in France and Ireland.

Chapter 4: Indianapolis

In 2019 I moved to Indy to work for the U.S. Dream Academy. There I formed 3 new partnerships through public speaking and outreach. I generated over 200 prospects, resulting in 18 mentors in the first 6 months. I began mentoring and acting again, and satisfied my wanderlust with exploring New York City that summer. When the local affiliate dissolved, followed by the global halt in 2020, I forged ahead.

Chapter 5: A New Professional Landscape

During the pandemic I provided project management for Dehler PR, then became a teller at Financial Center First Credit Union . A storyteller at heart, I made progress on a historical fiction novel. I also volunteered, teaching in my church’s youth program.

Then, in 2021 I was recruited for a Marketing & Events Coordinator position at the Greater Lawrence Chamber of Commerce, where I interfaced with its 175 member businesses. I also joined a local Kiwanis chapter. Eight months later, I was recruited again.

Chapter 6: Indy’s North Side

In 2022, after just three years in the city, I became the North District Marketing Director at the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis . Later that year, I traveled with my mother to England. But there were adventures at home as well: I ran a 5k with one of the YMCAs in my district. The following year, my marketing efforts for that same 5k, together with the work of colleagues, saw an increase of 283 participants and $13,766 raised (up to $61,844 from $48,078). I also designed monthly e-newsletters for my four centers, managed eight social media sites, published 16 original blog articles, and marketed to a membership base of nearly 23,000.

Chapter 7: Greater Lafayette

People and words, as mentioned above, have always captivated me. At this juncture in my life, I’ve learned that words and stories are ripe each new place I call home. But family tends to be rooted in one spot. So, now is the time to move close to loved ones. Would I be a good fit to start my next (and longest) chapter… with YOU?
